PJ’s on, lights dimmed, throws and cushions at the ready - cosy season is officially here. And there’s nothing cosier than the idea of curling up with a good book. If you lounge around in bed trying to find a reading stance that doesn’t hurt your neck, or sink into your sofa and are suddenly filled with the overwhelming urge to pick up the TV remote instead of a book; we’re here to help you fix it - the answer is a cosy little reading corner.

A dedicated space where you can switch off and enter the world of books, which is complete with a comfy chair, a cosy throw to wrap yourself up in, and a bookshelf with your favourites all lined up in a row.

And your kids can use it too - there’s nothing more underrated in a modern child’s world than the habit of reading. In a world that’s slowly forgetting the pleasure a few simple words on a page can offer, holding on tight to your book and having a good lamp to light the way is more important than ever.

Here’s how to style your very own cosy reading corner:

**What if your favourite place at home could be just one chair away?**

You don’t need an entire room, a wall of bookshelves or a Pinterest-perfect home to create a reading corner. All you really need is a quiet little spot that makes you want to put your phone away, pick up a book and stay for a while.

Start with the most important part: **a comfortable seat**. An oversized armchair, a soft lounge chair or even a generously layered floor cushion can instantly turn an unused corner into your new favourite spot. The trick is to choose something you can actually settle into, rather than simply something that looks good.

Keep the surroundings **soft and understated**. Warm neutrals, earthy tones and natural materials create a relaxed atmosphere without overwhelming the space. Add a throw and a couple of cushions for that effortless, lived-in feel. You want it to look inviting, not overly styled.

Then comes the lighting. A **warm floor lamp or a small table lamp** can completely transform the mood. Choose a soft, warm glow that makes evening reading feel less like a task and more like a ritual.

Of course, no reading corner is complete without somewhere to keep your books. A slim bookshelf, floating shelf or even a small side table is enough. Keep a few of your current favourites within reach because the best reading corner is one where you don’t have to get up to find your next story.

Finally, add **one or two personal touches**. A little plant, a framed print, a candle or a favourite object can give the space some personality. Don’t fill every inch; leaving a little breathing room is what keeps the corner feeling calm.

After all, a reading corner isn’t really about creating a beautiful space. It’s about creating a small escape from everything else. Somewhere between the first page and the last, you might just find a little more time for yourself.
